Perhaps Contraption

Squire Squier is the musical director / producer / multi-instrumentalist / visual artist and voice behind the device known as Perhaps Contraption. His twisted-folk solo efforts still retain the inscrutable "English" playfulness/ mess of the collective, but are altogether more bare, warming and personal. Bizarre resuscitation's of UK folk songs, band motifs and “knees-ups” are thrown into live shows for good measure.

Live Performances are often accompanied by monologues, contact juggling and the sporadic "possession" of Squire by different characters & interactions. Depending on the time of year, he may be accompanied by various members of the collective; perhaps with jumbled car-boot percussion, or seen dark & ridiculous, lunging with SUSIE SHOWERS.

A tour of the West Coast of the USA is planned for Summer 2010, culminating in a string of shows at the legendary Burning Man project. Join our sporadic mailing list for updates.

Compositions are usually constructed around intricately plucked guitar, flute & woodwind. Found sounds (stomachs, drains, hot-air balloons, wine glasses etc.) are lovingly mangled and regurgitated in the studio. Acting as intriguing detailed underbellies amongst songs and segues.

Elements of solo shows are realised /embellished on Perhaps Contraption's 2nd album "Sir Quiche Rots" Due to be released Summer 2010. It’s a gentler (though still outrageous) avant-excursion recorded in (nearly)the same burst as “Sludge and Tripe”

As well as being a dedicated song-writer / sound-designer / improviser, Squire Squier is an experienced sand sculptor. His creations have taken him across the globe, most notably to a solo spot at the world sand sculpture championships in Canada, 2008. Some of the pieces below were completed with either the skills of  Sandalism.co.uk or Dirty Beach.tv
